Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
TRAI Full Form is Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. TRAI is an independent organization or agency that is responsible for creating and maintaining regulations in Indian telecommunication business sector. It does not only regulates telecom services, it also fixes tariffs for various telecommunication providers in India. Ram Sewak Sharma is the current chairman of TRAI. Along with the chairman, the administrative or regulatory board of TRAI consists of other members (two full-timers and two part-timers).
Established in 1997, TRAI regulates the telecommunication sector both economically and legally. The primary and principal aim of TRAI is to provide the customers with best possible services at best possible rates. It also helps to maintain a fair market policy that in turn helps to maintain a healthy competitive atmosphere for the telecom service providers.
Regulation and maintenance of interconnection services, service quality, tariff rates and orders, cable and digital broadcasting services, portability of mobile numbers are the commonly known and categorized functions of TRAI. TRAI conducts surveys and studies to note consumer comments so that they can ensure better telecom services throughout the country. The recent study on net neutrality was published as a consultation paper. Currently, TRAI is giving emphasis on resolving the issue of call drops.
