SPSS Full Form is Statistical Package for Social Sciences. SPAA is a software program based on Windows which is used to perform analysis, data entry and to make graphs & tables. SPSS is mainly used for statistical analysis, marketing, and health sciences. It is compatible with various operating systems such as Linux, Windows, Mac, etc. Since it is a product of IBM, it is also popular as ‘IBM SPSS Statistics’. SPSS is widely used by analysts, business consultants, statistical programmers, and researchers. It greatly contributes in smart decision-making as it can predict the outcome of any activity or experiment with clarity. SPSS has many variations including SPSS statistics, modeler, neural networks, data collection, forecasting, and analytical decision management.
The software package was manufactured by SPSS Inc but it was eventually acquired by the giant IBM in the year 2009. The present version in the market is officially called the IBM SPSS Statistics. There are other products within its family which are utilized for the purposes of authoring surveys and deployments such as IBM SPSS Data Collection, IBM SPSS Modeler (which is essentially used for data mining), and deployment and collaboration (which include automated and batch services). The name “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences” was used to reflect its original market, however, with time, the utility of the software expanded to other areas such as marketing and health sciences. Let us have some overview about a few aspects about SPSS.
The SPSS is widely used by health researchers, marketing researchers, government, survey companies, education researchers, data miners, and marketing organizations. The original SPSS manual had been regarded as one of the most influential books in sociology that enable researchers to conduct their statistical analyses. Along with statistical analysis, the software facilitates data management (which involves file reshaping, case selection, creation of derived data) as well as data documentation by means of a metadata dictionary which was found in the datafile.
Statistics that were included in the original software were: Bivariate statistics (correlation, means, t-test, and nonparametric tests), Descriptive Statistics (cross tabulation, descriptive ratio statistics, frequencies, explore, etc), Numerical outcome prediction (linear regression), and Identifying group prediction (cluster analysis, factor analysis, discriminant).Ever since the acquisition of the SPSS, IBM has introduced new, advanced features in latest versions of SPSS and has added more incentives to ensure greater grasp on the market.
