National Rural Livelihood Mission
NRLM Full Form is National Rural Livelihood Mission. NRLM is a rural development programme intended to alleviate the standards of livelihood of the people who lives in rural areas. This programme emphasizes on the self-employment of the poor people so that they can raise their income-generation capacity in order to increase their lifestyle standards.
Introduced in 2011 with a budget of 5.1 billion Dollars, NRLM is undoubtedly one of the flagship programmes launched by the MoRD (Ministry of Rural Development) of India. The basic intention of this programme is to uplift the occupational aspirations of the poor youth population and to effectively diversify incomes of the poor rural people. An earlier initiative, of MoRD, named SGSY (Swarnajayanti Grameen Swarojgar Yojana) was merged into NRLM.
This programme has many unique features. Implemented successfully under both central and state governments’ supervision, it provides technical and soft skill development training, food and accommodation facility during residential training, 75% placement assistance and post placement support too. NRLM heavily and strongly emphasizes upon women empowerment. NRLM has a transparent and accountable process of its function. NRLM gives enough opportunity to the aspiring individuals to elevate their income and to develop their present businesses if any. This programme is aided by the World Bank with a credit of 1 billion Dollars.
