NIKE Full Form? The name NIKE refers to the the Greek Goddess of Victory. Nike is a prominent American multinational corporation that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets apparel, footwear, accessories, equipment, and services. The company has its headquarters in Oregon situated in the metropolitan area of Portland. Presently, Nike is one of the largest suppliers of apparel and athletic shoes in the world, along with being a major sportswear equipment manufacturer. The company was established under the name Blue Ribbon Sports by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in the year 1964. It was renamed into its present name in the year 1971.

Nike promotes several brands such as Nike+, Nike Pro, Bike golf, Air Force 1, Air Max, Nike Skateboarding, Foamposite, Air Jordan, etc. Its subsidiaries include Hurley International, Converse, and Brand Jordon. Apart from manufacturing sports equipment and apparels, the company also operates retail stores. Nike undertakes charitable activities such as in the year 2012, it became a partner of the RED campaign, along with other major brands such as American Express, Converse, and Girl. The mission of the campaign is to prevent the transmission of the dangerous HIV virus from mother to child by the year 2015.

The company has been mired in various controversies that attracted media attention internationally for example the Sweatshop controversy. In this controversy, Nike Sweatshops in countries such as Indonesia, China, Vietnam, and Mexico violated the minimum wage and overtime regulations. Additionally, these factories allegedly subjected workers to poor and exploitative conditions. Such allegations resonated intensely in China which caused one of the biggest strikes in the mainland in the year 2014. Factory workers alleged underpayment and exploitative working conditions. Nike factories have also alarmed environmentalists and vigilance agencies which state exposure to toxic chemicals in the manufacture of Nike products in factories established across the globe.
