GMAT Full Form is Graduate Management Admission Test. GMAT is a computer aided test which is considered a valid entrance test to apply for various management programs across the world. The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a standard accepted by management universities world-wide and tests the logical reasoning, decision making, quantitative analysis and verbal and written skills in English all of which are critical in the corporate world.

Preparing for GMAT requires a lot of practice. Many self-help books on GMAT preparation are available with sample questions on various levels of the GMAT format. Many reputed training institutes help the management aspirants to prepare well for the GMAT with training sessions and mock tests. There are 20 test centres in India and you can directly take the test online also.

More than 100 management schools in India accept GMAT scores for admission to more than 200 of their prestigious management courses. An unofficial score of the online test can be received immediately though the official results will take at least 20 days to reach your mail or address. If you are not satisfied with your GMAT scores you can cancel the test taken within 60 days of taking the test. The cut-off marks of GMAT for each management school may differ.

GMAT Full Form – Additional Information

GMAT is essentially a Computer-based Test (abbreviated as CBT) that is conducted for the purpose of assessing certain writing, analytical, reading, verbal, and quantitative skills in English. The scores obtained are applied for the purpose of obtaining admission to a graduate management course such as Master of Business Administration (abbreviated as MBA). It mandates knowledge of particular grammar, and of geometry, algebra, and arithmetic.

The GMAT does not evaluate business skills or knowledge. It also does not assess intelligence. As per the Graduate Management Admission Council (abbreviated as GMAC), the GMAT evaluates problem-solving and analytical writing skills. It also deals with data sufficiency, critical reasoning,the logic that are considered important in management and business success. GMAT can be given for maximum five times a year and every attempt must be minimum 16 days apart.

GMAT is basically a registered trademark of GMAC. Approximately 6000 courses are provided by about 2100 institutions and universities that accept the GMAT score as part of their selection procedure. Business Schools make use of the GMAT scores for the purpose of admission to a big range of management programs such as Master of Accountancy, MBA, and Master of Finance. The GMAT examination is conducted in standardized test centers across 112 countries. As per a survey, GMAT is presently a number one option for MBA aspirants even after the rise in the acceptability of GRE scores.

In the year 1953, the GMAC was established and it began essentially as an association of 9 business schools, aiming to create a standardized test to assist business schools to select competent candidates. The test was originally used by 54 schools but presently, it is applied to more than 2100 schools. In the year 2012, GMAC launched an integrated reasoning section to the examination with the objective of measuring the ability of the test taker to assess information given in multiple formats derived from multiple sources. The real purpose of the GMAT is to give a prediction of the student’s success in business programs.

The GMAT comprises 4 sections, namely: integrated reasoning section, analytical writing assessment, a verbal section, and a quantitative section. Total test time is 210 minutes. Test takers are given 30 minutes on the analytical section, 30 minutes on the integrated reasoning section, 75 minutes on the quantitative section and the remaining 75 minutes on the verbal section. There are breaks provided during the examination.

Test takers can register for the GMAT online or offline. They may register online at mba.com and offline by communicating to a test center. An appointment should be mandatorily made at any of the designated test centers for the purpose of scheduling the examination. The GMAT examination may not be organized more than once within 31 days, even if the scores have been canceled. The total cost for applying to the examination is US$250. Candidates are required to come to the test centers along with a valid ID proof. On finishing with the test, the test takers have the choice to report or cancel their scores.
