Full Form of GSM:
Global System for Mobile communication
GSM Full Form is Global System for Mobile communication. GSM is developed in Europe and is widely used around the globe. GSM is a wireless network which uses a SIM card in order to track the account of the mobile user. GSM applies TDMA or Time Division Multiple Access, which lets up to 8 calls to be made simultaneously. SIM card lets the users to swiftly alter their mobile number by merely changing the SIM card.
At present, the GSM networks function on frequency bands of 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 Mega Hz. Quad bands are devices which support all the above four bandwidths; while those which support 2 or 3 bands are called dual-band and tri-band respectively. As per 2014 statistics, GSM seems to be the default standard for communications over mobile phones and this is due to almost 90% share and usage in more than 219 countries.
GSM Full Form – Additional Information
GSM, which stands for Global System for Mobile Communications, refers to a standard created by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (abbreviated as ETSE) for describing the protocols meant for the second generation (abbreviated as 2G) digital cellular networks applied by mobile phones deployed first in Finland in the year 1991. As of the year 2014, it has transformed itself as the de facto international standard for mobile communications since it controls 90 percent of market share functioning in approximately 219 nations.
2G networks were created as a substitute for the first generation (abbreviated as 1G) analog cellular networks and the GSM standard was used originally for full-duplex voice telephony. This stretched over time to cover data communications by circuit-switched transport, followed by packet data transport through General Packet Radio Services (abbreviated as GPRS), and Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (abbreviated as EGPRS or EDGE).
Eventually, the 3GPP created the third-generation (abbreviated as 3G) UTMS standards which were followed by the fourth-generation (abbreviated as 4G) LTE Advanced Standards that are not part of ETSI GSM Standard. The network is arranged into a number of sections, namely: Base Station Subsystem, Network and Switching Subsystem, the GPRS Core Network, and the Operations Support System (abbreviated as OSS).The acronym GSM is essentially a trademark of the GSM Association.
In the year 1982, work had already started on the development of a European standard for the purposes of digital cellular voice telecommunications and major activity began with the establishment of the Groupe Special Mobile Committee by European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (abbreviated as CEPT), which later gave way to a technical support group operating from Paris. In the year 1987, Europe created its first-ever GSM technical Specification.
High-level Ministers from the four major European Union countries gave their political backing for GSM in the form of Bonn Declaration on Global Information Networks in the month of May and the GSM Memorandum of Understanding was tabled for assent in the month of September. The Memorandum of Understanding attracted mobile operators from Europe to make an investment in new GSM networks. In the year 1989, there was the transfer of the Groupe Special Mobile committee to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (abbreviated as ETSI).
Works started in the year 1991 towards the expansion of the GSM network across the globe. Four years later, SMS messaging, data, and fax were launched for commercial use. In the year 2000, the first-ever commercial GPRS services came up and in the following year, UTMS network was launched. The first ever Multimedia Messaging Service (abbreviated as MMS) was launched in the year 2002. Ever since then, GSM network has been growing day by day.
Despite the increase in security structures of GSM, there has been a rise in the number of security flaws that has raised concerns in the International community. To tackle security issues, GSM has implemented many cryptographic algorithms and these algorithms are subject to international scrutiny in respect of their viability and longevity.
GSM Full Form: General Service Medal
Full Form of GSM refers to General Service Medal. General Service Medal (1918 GSM) was initiated in order to recognize the service in minor Air Force and Army operations for which there was no individual honor or medal intended. On the reverse side, it had a standing Victory figure with wings in Corinthian helmet bearing a trident.
These medals were however replaced by General Service medal (1962 GSM), which is also known as Campaign Service Medal. This too is a circular silver medal, which portrayed a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and the words ‘FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE’ beneath a crown that is surrounded by a coronet of oak leaves on the other side. This was awarded until 2007 and is currently replaced with Operational Service Medal.
Full Form of GSM: Greenwich School of Management
GSM Full Form stands for Greenwich School of Management. Formerly known as GSoM, the Greenwich School of Management London (GSM London), is a self-governed school for higher education, which is based in Greenford of West London and Greenwich of South-east London. The school was established in 1973 and is popular for its business-specific courses at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels parallel to other specialized training. The school caters to several International students. As per the records of 2015, GSM has educated more than 20,000 students.

The school is also a member of the AIHEP or Association of Independent Higher Education Providers and has the accreditation of British Accreditation Council (BAC) for Independent Further and Higher Education.
GSM Full Form: Geological Society of Malaysia
Full Form of GSM refers to Geological Society of Malaysia. The Geological Society of Malaysia was founded in 1967, with the objective of developing advancement of Earth Sciences in Southeast Asia and in Malaysia. With over 600 members across the globe in various disciplines, the society promotes scientific, academic, and professional endeavors of the members. GSM organizes 2 major conferences each year – Petroleum Geology Conference and Exhibition or PGCE and National Geoscience Conference or NGC. Other activities organized by GSM include; scientific and technical talks; short courses; field trips, etc.
GSM works in collaboration with various universities like; Institute of Geology; Kebangsaan; Mineral and Geoscience Department Malaysia; Sains university; and more. However, The Geological Society of Malaysia limits its membership to geology graduates, professionals, and lecturers and includes few of those science students who have an engineering and geophysics major.
