Full Form of FM :
FM Full Form is Frequency Modulation. FM refers to the method of data impression on AC wave or alternating current wave. This is done by varying or modulating the wave’s instant frequency. This can be applied to digital or analog data. When FM is broadcast on VHF or very high-frequency bands, it can offer exceptionally good audio quality. FM is most often used for 2-way radio communication purposes. FM is a term used in signal processing, radio communications, and telecommunications. FM is exclusively used for communications of a mobile radio in various transport systems.
In spite of several digital transmissions emerging with the advancement of technology, FM is still being the most common modulation. However, whenever information is carried by an FM signal, to extract the information, it has to be demodulated. There are defined processes through which demodulation is done. FM is essentially the information encoding in a carrier wave by means of varying the wave’s instantaneous frequency. This is in contrast with amplitude modulation. In amplitude modulation, the carrier waves’ amplitude varies whereas the frequency remains the same.
In analog FM, for example, FM radio broadcasting of any audio signal that represents music or voice, the difference between the carrier’s frequency and carrier’s center frequency (which is called frequency deviation) is proportional to the modulating signal. Encoding and transmission of digital data by means of FM is done by shifting the frequency of the carrier among a predetermined set of frequencies that represent digits such as one frequency representing a binary 1 and second frequency representing binary 0. This technique of modulation is known as frequency shift keying (abbreviated as FSK). The FSK has wide utility in tax modems and other modems and can also be utilized for the purposes of sending Mores code.
In fact, Radioteletype also makes use of FSK. FM is widely utilized for the purposes of FM Radio Broadcasting. Its use can be found in radar, telemetry, seismic prospecting, monitoring of newborns via EEG, music synthesis, two-way radio systems, magnetic tape recording, and other transmission systems. FM is advantageous in Radio transmission, especially because if the FM has a bigger signal-to-noise ratio, it rejects the radio frequency interference better than the equal strength of amplitude modulation (abbreviated as AM) signal. It is for this reason that music is mostly broadcasted through FM radio. There exists a close relation between Phase Modulation and Frequency Modulation. The former is frequently used as an intermediate means for achieving FM. Mathematically, both these forms of Modulation are regarded as special cases of Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (abbreviated as QAM).
