ABP News Full Form is Ananda Bazaar Patrika News. The news channel in India under the ownership of the ABP Group is called the ABP News. Its head office is present in Noida. This channel was launched in the year 1998. Its former name was Star News. It started broadcasting in Hindi from the year 2003. Before 2003, it provided news services in Hindi as well as English and was operated by Star, along with the NDTV until the year 2003. In the year 2003, the agreement between Star News and NDTV expired. Following this, an agreement formed between the ABP and Star led to the channel’s transformation into a Hindi News Channel.
A guideline was introduced by the Government during the year 2003, according to which the foreign equity into the news channel became limited to twenty-six percent. This guideline led to the formation of a joint venture between the ABP or the Ananda Bazaar Patrika group and Star. This joint venture led to the formation of a company known as MCCS or Media Content and Communications Services Ltd. This company was responsible for operating the Star news channel.
Nearly seventy percent of this joint venture was under the ownership of the ABP group, and the remaining was owned by Star. The audience share of the ABP News Channel, as of the year 2016, is more than forty-three thousand. Its sister channels include ABP Sanja, ABP Majha, and ABP Ananda. ABP Ananda is a Bengali News Channel. ABP Sanjha and ABP Ananda broadcasts news in Punjabi and Marathi languages respectively. The ABP Sanjha channel was established in the year 2014.
